Industrial Hose Pump Hose Selection ABC

2026.03.05

In the industrial field, whether the hose selection for a hose pump is compatible with the medium directly affects the stability and safety of the entire production process. The physical and chemical properties of different media vary greatly, and the requirements for the hose are also different. So, how to choose the appropriate hose based on the medium characteristics?

I. Core Principles of Hose Selection

  • Medium Compatibility First: Verify through material compatibility tests.

  • Life Cycle Cost Calculation: Choose the most cost-effective solution by considering the medium's corrosiveness, abrasiveness, and pumping frequency.

II. Suitable Environments and Media for Various Hoses

NR (Natural Rubber)

  • Temperature: -20°C ~ +80°C, Max Pressure: 16 bar

  • Applicable Media: Low-aggression chemicals, highly abrasive media, inorganic media (e.g., 30% sodium hydroxide, ammonia water, 40% ferric chloride, seawater, polyaluminum chloride PAC)

NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber)

  • Temperature: -20°C ~ +80°C, Max Pressure: 16 bar

  • Applicable Media: Oily organic media (e.g., waste oil, etc.)

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)

  • Temperature: -20°C ~ +80°C, Max Pressure: 16 bar

  • Applicable Media: Corrosive, diffusible chemicals, inorganic media (e.g., 30% hydrochloric acid, 30% sodium hydroxide, organic sulfur, coagulant aids, flocculants ~ polyacrylamide PAM, etc.)

CSM (Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene Rubber)

  • Temperature: +5°C ~ +85°C, Max Pressure: 16 bar

  • Applicable Media: Highly corrosive media (e.g., oxidants, etc.)

TYG (Tygon/Tygothane - assuming brand name)

  • Temperature: +5°C ~ +85°C, Max Pressure: 4 bar

  • Applicable Media: Sodium hypochlorite and concentrated sulfuric acid

III. Common Applicable Media for Hose Pumps

  • Slurries containing sand or metal particles

  • Cobalt, nickel slurry, leachate, high specific gravity gold/platinum slurry

  • Lime milk, polyelectrolytes, caustic soda, slurry suspension, ferric chloride, iron sulfate

  • Plastic pigments, acids, solvents, polyester mixtures, detergents

  • Toothpaste, shampoo, soap, face cream

  • Bleach, dyes, suspended solids

  • Adhesives, dyes, colorants, fungicides

  • Paints, pigments for tiles and bricks, concrete additives, pastes, screen printing enamels, dyes, latex

  • Distilled water, acids

  • Beer yeast, edible oils and fats, natural flavors, chocolate, ice cream, dietary food, milk, yogurt.

Different media have different requirements for hoses. Media that are corrosive, contain solids, or have high temperatures all require targeted hose selection solutions.
